I think it's also due to the fact that a lot 3D artists seem totally married to photorealistic rendering techniques, which don't always mesh well with stylized characters. And the farthest they'll ever diverge from that is like cel shading with an outline.
I firmly believe that stylized 3D CAN look good, because if you look at videogames without the luxury of physically accurate lighting, lots of them find ways to stylize their characters and look better than they would with realistic characters. Pic related looks appealing most of the time and doesn't use the standard face OP posted.

Nigga, what the fuck do you think you're talking about. The style in Op's pic is literally Albert Hurter's design from Snow White translated intro 3D. That's a movie from almost 100 years ago. Do you know why that design didn't got major changes is this century? Because it fucking works in achieving everything it's set to do.

As you've said, you're self taught and has no interest in showing your work, which makes anything you do useless and devoid of any significant valor, since it can't be appreciated or used by anyone else but yourself. This also removes your fragile ego from any opportunity of growth since you hide from criticism and the opinions of people much more experienced than you.

Design is language, and if you only speak to yourself you might be doing just as good as babbling.

Dude, blacks are the only ones who can pull off the anime look without also being asian.

Japs use anime style because of efficiency.
Blacks use anime style because of laziness.

This is what huWhites don't understand. Stylization serves a purpose: convey the same idea but don't waste your time on redundant details.

Whites can't do anime because whites think anime is the end goal, when in fact it's about cutting corners.

Every black artist that I've seen who's amazing always devolves to doing anime. Again, it's just quicker and the hoi poloi aren't sophisticated enough to tell anime is just a visual trick.

You absolutely need a foundation in real people to do stylized correctly.
To achieve an appealing character, you need to create a functional anatomy that works in that design's own rules - otherwise it's just a bunch of malformed shapes and volumes.
By being functional, you can sculpt what's not excessively descriptive in that concept.

Why would anyone feel the need to post their work at the beginning stages of learning a medium?
It seems like it would trick the brain into sense of "achievement" too early in the learning process. Potentially skewing perseverance to learn and achieve more

>since it can't be appreciated or used by anyone else but yourself.
There is so much garbage in this world, I think there is extreme value being closed off from external stimuli while learning things. If it fails- so be it. If it succeeds, Great... What is important is that you came to conclusions on what is good and what is bad on your own.
My work only serves to be MY language into a space of creation. The process of creating is the value- the finished work, which can (and will) be shared, is a consolation.

The work unshared is similar to the hours training alone any athlete will endure, in order to accomplish their goals in the activity. Nobody needs to see the world champion kickboxer's high school tapes, and the kickboxer never felt the need to share their high school tapes/ it is personal growth that is not necessary to share- the champion has his eyes far ahead

Your analogy is an incomplete parable.
None of those world ranking athletes achieved that status by training alone, a recluse in a shadow.
They spent hours training, yes - but never by themselves. Always accompanied by mentors that would teach them the best techniques and paths of learning, just as the most nutritious food for their muscles to grow.

Not showing your work is like training by yourself without the knowledge of what is required to achieve your goals.
A teen who dreams about the world series but barely knows the rules of baseball, since he doesn't want to learn. Not sharing your work is not receiving constructive feedback on what you're doing, is listening to your own ego fight itself to please itself, never caring about the minds of others - who are the true judges of our works worth.

The only value of being closed from external stimuli is false sense of security

It's quite annoying indeed. Something like the fact that half the people in art schools have tried to draw anime at some point in their lives. It's obviously related to mass culture (ie why marvel fans only draw super muscular guys,). >None of those world ranking athletes achieved that status by training alone, a recluse in a shadow.
Rodney Mullen. Basically invented street skating alone in his garage. Unaware of what was going on around him- his father barred him from skateboarding or being a part of it. He worked out a completely new approach to the mechanics and physics of the body and board, which serves as the template for street skateboarding as we know it. Wonder- passion and drive- curiosity - isolated from the contemporary- these factors fueled the innovation and creation. Not fueled by external gratification or guidance. You seem to have a narrow view of things, especially if you choose to ignore this example. Another example, non-athlete, is Richard James

Your idea of the perfect method of learning does not exist. And you seem to assume everyone has the same sized ego as you, which is not the truth. Many great artists separate ego completely. It does not play a role in their fire to create.
Style is grown from within.
What is right and what is known does lead to creative breakthrough. Necessary to acknowledge, but a hindrance to innovation. Their is immense knowledge and power in the isolation while creating, especially now. Like I said above, we are surrounded by 24/7 garbage. How can one possibly think clearly in the pivotal stages of growth as an artist while surrounded by creative sludge?

You are also very hung up on 1 thing- I do share my work- And think others should too- But not for gratification or acceptance. Instead, to give permanence to the efforts. Nothing more.

>> No.773233

>>773183

Anon, I do think your point of view has many strengths and I appreciate you taking the time and effort to share them with me. I wholeheartedly agree that we are much too unfocused and there's way too much noise getting in our way towards greatness.

Hell, if I didn't waste HOW MANY FUCKING HOURS playing World of Warcraft or Overwatch, I could probably have a much better house by now.

The problem I'm finding with your method (and analogies) is that in this particular medium, we are often concerned with communication. Art is Art, ok, but Design has a function. Most of what we do is more related to design than Art. Trying to achieve something new by not looking at what exists or at what is going on is (in my honest opinion) a gamble.
You need to iterate, not only on your ideas, but also on the ideas of others. I see that this is what you're against; being infected by a foreign concept, perhaps a foundation that might not be 'true' or 'real', and that we just build iterations of it. It in fact is what I believe is ruining most art direction nowadays. So many warcraft "skull and iron spikes", and giant shoulders derivatives, let alone *that* stylized look on orcs and dwarves that pretty much stained visual depiction of them for everything else. But that's also what sells. That's the current META for orcs and dwarves in popular culture, that's what our collective imagination instinctively sees when asked to picture them.

As you can guess, my POV is from a marketing standpoint, and not just as an artist.
I'm very interested in making my art interesting, and after our exchange of words, I came to believe that might actually be something that's holding me back.
Focusing less on what people WANT wand more on what they need and feeld could be much more productive to my own goals. Thanks

>> No.773260

>>773233
Your perspective is good to read. We lack every single point of view besides our own. Commercial communication is something I have begun facing in these past few months- and it is something I have to get more comfortable with. I will do my best to take it in stride. I understand the world owes me nothing, which is a nice place to start (it seems)
