That's right, fellas! Finally, you can deal with that obnoxious coworker who insists on using Blender for everything. (The day he gets fired can't come soon enough!)

I'm not posting a link because you are not babbys and know how to search things online (as opposed to most Blender users). Now, I'll go back to dabbing on those amateurs! Cheers mateys!

Was it really that big of a deal before? As long as the file type he exports it as is compatible, it shouldn’t matter what program he decides to make your shitty models in.

this would be easier if autodesk supported non-proprietary formats other than .obj

Or if Blender properly supported FBX import/export like other 3D packages.

everyone who supports FBX properly uses the SDK provided by autodesk, since they control the format (they don't even provide any documentation on how it works). Blender cannot include the SDK since it's not compatible with their license, so they have to reverse engineer a half-assed solution.

>Blender cannot include the SDK
This is true, they cannot distribute the SDK. But they can build support for it, and ask interested users to download the SDK themselves. This would give Blender proper FBX support without breaking any license. In fact, there is at least one plug-in for linking the Autodesk's FBX SDK from Blender (https://blendermarket.com/products/better-fbx-importer--exporter).).

The real reason why Blender devs don't properly implement FBX, I suspect, is their dogmatic aversion to anything related to Autodesk. And you, Blender users, pay for that in lost time and unnecessary frustration. It's time you WAKE UP and put Blender in the trash.

Yeah, the downside is that they'll always be separate setup processes. There's also a similar aversion to open standards from Autodesk; there are plug-ins, but they don't (and won't) add native support. It's understandable as a business strategy, but it's pretty frustrating.

You sure Autodesks user license does not says anything about that?
>This would give Blender proper FBX support without breaking any license.
Wrong. The user breaks the GPL when he uses the SDK with Blender. Its simply not compatible with the license.
The Blender foundation sure isn't motivated to build a software bridge between Blender and the SDK to go around that license problem which would also bind many devs for many hours to get this done, not to mention that AD updates FBX every year and makes things worse and more complex.

There's a dude that created a FBX Importer Exporter based on Autodesks official SDK, it's a hundred times better than the garbage the blender devs call their "FBX importer".

Exporting from Blender to Max or vice versa was straight up cancer. That plugin is pretty good.

Its 25 bucks tho... unless you sail the high seas

This is Blender propaganda, don't listen to it.

Can a nig get a magnet? It's not on cgpeers yet.

Yeah, betterFBX. I always use it, it's awesome. The donut foundation should integrate it by default.

Maya binary files are cat poo. I hate them. Maya ASCII files are OK but why? FBX, OBJ, Alembic. That's where it's at.

users can't break GPL, only distributors can, you absolute retard. meanwhile, a software bridge *would* break GPL because the only way to read .blend files is by importing the blender libraries.
