772640 No.772640 [Reply] [Original]

I have a question for you /3/, have you ever suffered piracy? How did you react? Do you have any experiences you want to share?
My case :
>Spent months working on a character, sculpting, modeling, clothing, retopo, unwrapping, texturing, baking, rigging, blendshapping, animating, exporting to a game engine, well you know the deal
>In a matter of weeks, someone ripped her, made a poorly head swap with mismatched texture seams to a random daz model, copied all the clothes and blendshapes.
>Ive seen her in animations from patreon and other similar sites, earning money from my work
>Its been months since that, now she is on those porn banners, fake games like "fuck dolls" and so on. Theres even a russian website claiming its their work.

I know I cant do anything, but this really discourages me as the character itself is more famous in porn animations than on the original product. And all that not counting Im not seeing any of that money.
Anyway, I work as character and environmental artist, so I dont really know a lot about game engines. Do you know if theres any way to prevent this to happen? Maybe importing directly a posed animation instead of T-Pose, just that will help a lot as most of thes coomers dont really know how to model a basic table.

Pic not related but similar work.

Unfortunately game engines don't give a shit about protecting assets. Even if they do, some people can rip geometry/texture data directly from memory.

Long story short: If you really want to protect your assets, only share 2D renders. If you want to monetize your 3D work, I'd say you have to options:

1. Team up with people that will create content with your models, securing income
2. Make content with your model that will inevitably be unique (coomers love paying for the smallest bit of interactivity, try making a shitty smut game if u must)

is it the image in op? looks pretty nice, sorry about people stealing your work. I'd say best move is to publish screenshots of it in a social network or upload it to sketchfab so you have an easy way to prove it's your work and you may threaten reporting people who use it or something similar. maybe they don't get it down even then, but I'm guessing some people may do it

He's bullshitting. Porn models are 99% based on recognizable characters from popular games, in which case, there would probably be multiple people working on the model.
In the unlikely event that he's telling the truth, he should be proud of his character creation skills.

I don't think so but whenever I upload something on sketchfab I get a dozen Indians begging for a model download. I'm sure some of them figured out how to rip models but I only upload triangulated and decimated models so good luck to them if they want to modify my stuff.

You can at least report that shit to Patreon. It would be fun watching those fuckers get demonetized.

Just prove to Patreon that you are the original author (best way IMO is to show source files at different stages of progress, plus previous publications, preferably those you think rippers got the model from), and wait for the tears.

>>772874
No it doesn't you have copyright automatic for anything you create and you absolutely sue anyone for copyright infringement but in the US unless
you've registered the copyright beforehand you can only sue for the actual damages the infringement have caused you.

If it is a copyright you've registered beforehand you can sue for what's called 'statutory damages'
which streamlines the legal process and makes it a lot easier and quicker for you to get compensated.

Op is a LARP'er tho. But yeah, if you demo your work in marmoset or whatever and it's something a coomer would want to get their hairy palms on
show it articulated with a facial expression without the skeleton so it's useless for reproductions.
Anyone skilled enough to rebuild it from there won't do it since they're already making their own stuff.

Any model of 3rd party characters that aren't reasonably "original" in style is fair game in terms of piracy.
If you're trying to cash in on a company's IP, but cry wolf when others do the same to you, I'll just watch and laugh.

If it's "OC" based off of existing content, it never belonged to you. You merely borrowed it hoping you wouldn't get caught.
An "OC" model like this getting "pirated" is perfectly justified karma.

>>772640
Only thing that would ever get stolen for this type of shit is models of existing characters. So own up or shut up.

>>772889
Fuck no.
All you have to do is reasonably prove without a doubt that you are the creator of said work and owner of said IP. Which, if you've made the thing, should be pretty simple to do.
The main problem is suing people for this shit internationally. That and releasing personal information to the person you intend to sue, thus inviting the salty party to do whatever they want with said information.

He made Tifa fanart more or less tracing the Dissidia model for "his" version, for a decent end result. Never sold it, never shared it. The model is posed without an armature, so no, nobody used it for porn unless in a headswap and to be frank, there's better Tifa heads.

A friendly reminder to never post anything on Sketchfab, MarmoViewer, or anything alike it. If you have to post a model in 3D space use a 360* screencap rotation. 180* or even 90* if you feel like someone could utilize the screencaps to piece a whole model together.

OP is lying because like the other anon said usually it's AAA game models get ripped like that and while it's not impossible for someone from here to work in the industry.
1. OP implies he made the model in it's entirety and it's unlikely for one guy in the industry to do every thing.
2. if it is a AAA model he made he wouldn't be getting any more money from it after he completes it but he seems to implies he's losing money, even though it would be owned by blizzard and not his model anymore.
3. if it's a indie game he made with someone, well, there isn't anyone stealing those and certainly not anyone making money off of them on patreon, it's just blizzard shit mostly.

4. if it's a indie game he made with someone, and it's getting ripped for porn within weeks, well that means it's hugely successful and OP would likely be rich from any rev share, and if he's not getting rev share for a indie game he made, seems more apt to be angry at the dev that hired him then some coomers on patreon.

no, the tifa model is some other guys model, that got stolen from sketchfab or the artstation marmoset viewer. OP is LARP'ing.

>> No.773935

All that effort just to trying to prove OP is lying and he didnt make any model or AAA character. Why? Just because its /3/ and its impossible to find good work here? Even if OP was asking about piracy or tips on how to avoid it.
He told he works as a character and environment artist. I worked in the industry several times, learnt a lot in the production of different games and between works, in my free time, I created my own models too. Theres no need to be working at a big/indie studio for getting your models stolen.
He says he took his time to model it so by my understandings what he claims its totally possible, I got several props pirated and sold in different pages. I created a small script a couple of years ago for 4'99$ and you can find it everywhere in torrent sites. But it seems this board only works by "post your work here" or "prove it or it doesnt exist". And if you post it, its automatically shit tier. We all know you people make better models and earn 100k yearly, but I now know why /3/ is what it is, even worse than /ic/.
You are the kind of people who even if they are showing you something or a project you keep denying it just because. Ive seen people posting here their artstation and getting destroyed. I dont know its frustration, jealousy or what it is, but Im really tired of this toxic board.
