It seems that the writing is on the wall the only way forward for DEFI is a interoperability, so the blockchains that prioritize interoperability (e.g. Polkadot, Horizen, Wanchain), or make it easy to copy a DApp from Ethereum on to their blockchain (e.g. Cardano) will likely be in the top 10 for a number of years.

Data transaction volume is limited by block size, so high userbase size increases will inevitably lead to congestion and high fees if only 1 smart contract platform is used. Only a small percentage of the world's population uses DEFI, and Ethereum can't handle it. AVAX had a high influx of users, and it couldn't handle it.

Users will need to be spread out across smart contract platforms for this to be successful. People like Gavin Woods and Jack Lu understood that years ago, and it's why they built Polkadot and Wanchain.
