Around 1380 a bricklayer there earned 40 Heller (summer) or 32 Heller (winter) a day. A handyman, however, brought it to 22 Heller in summer and 18 Heller in winter. Became independent of the seasons for one penny you got about 20 chickens for 1000! In the 12th century the average weight of a penny was around 1.1 - 1.6 grams.

1 Pfenning had a purchasing power of 10 chickens or about 1/3 kg of grain around 900.
Based on our conversion rate a purchasing power of approx. 30 euros.
