If something is worthless, you would want to sell it as high as possible, so you manipulate the price up and then sell it, like bitcoin at $60k. This fails if nobody buys it, yet many bought it with all the "it's going to $100k" propaganda.
If something is valuable, you would want to buy it as low as possible, so you manipulate the price down and then buy it, like silver at $20. This fails if everyone else is buying it too and not selling you any of it, which is what it looks like it's happening right now with physical silver. They have to keep the appearance of silver being useless, hoping people who keep buying it will eventually give up, but it's going to be a very big problem if they just keep stacking.
