I think a lot of the people margin trading unironically did it because they didn't know they were doing it. Apparently RH enables it automatically for you when it gives you the free $1K or whatever the fuck amount they give you. I can't imagine ever going on margin, you could literally fuck your life up forever if things went to total shit. Cash accounts only and it's like you're at a casino, only lose what you put in, and let's face it, the market is a casino, especially the way it is now.
Also apparently some countries here in Europe have automatic tax information filled out depending on the brokers, I guess no American ones have that? Unfortunate.

I want to believe that, especially with how the 1% get to do whatever they want with no repercussions, but you have to remember we live in a clown world. What I wrote could 100% have been what happened. We could all be getting fucked right now without even knowing it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it happened, that's why I didn't YOLO in all my savings even though in "theory" it should be a free ride to the Moon.
