The Air Force wants "Air Dominance Squadrons" pairing two Loyal Wingman drones with each F-35. This gives each F-35 pilot two more airframes to play with, more missiles, and supposedly the drones can actually take hits for the manned aircraft. The benefit here being XQ-58 costs millions instead of hundreds of millions and a pilot like an F-35.

The XQ-58A Valkyrie is Kratos's Loyal Wingman and Skyborg entry. They are a finalist in the program along with General Atomics and Boeing. To my knowledge, of the three competitors, only the Valkyrie has been flight tested.

Steve Fendley, President of Kratos’ Unmanned Systems Division, said, “Over the last three years, in anticipation of future drone orders, Kratos ramped up production line rates on several of our drone systems so that we would have a constant rate of aircraft coming off the production line to meet not only contracted but also future demand.
