I was over at my dads house the other day helping with some household chores. He lives in a very rural area of a very pro-precious metals state. At the end of the day we went to one of the nearby country bars. It’s the kind of place that farmers, truckers, legit cowboy boot wearers and the working class go to unwind with a cold one.

Bitcoin analysts were on the TV and the local gun store owner said to his auto mechanic (friends since high school),

I looked around and all I saw were heads nodding in agreement. I heard a few calls of “Yes sir” and “Damn Straight” from the men around me. Even saw the lonely ball cap wearing farmer in the corner raise his drink with a nod.

yes, i'm a retard newfag, however, i'd like to make it clear that i am not delutional thinking that i can just come in with $200 bucks
and get rich quick without knowing anything or even bothering to learn. i am only lurking, i know that i have nothing to contribute in terms
of knowledge and experience, so i refrain from posting. i even feel slightly guilty for making this thread, but i hope it can serve as a decent discussion on learning for newfags, thus somewhat redeeming my insolence. i am currently reading up on FA and TA, and i am watching videos by livetrader channels on youtube such as patrick wieland and the live traders channel. i am also working and finishing up a chemistry PhD, hoping that my insights into chem, marine, aquaculture and pharmaceutical sectors can provide me with some useful angles for researching potential
buys. due to my busy schedule i don't want to get into livetrading, only swing trades and long term value stocks. i recently inherited some money and i can put in ~20k as start up capital. my main question is

i realize that the psychology of having actual money at stake is completely different than having imaginary money to spend, and while i won't experience the psychological pressure this way, i'll still try to take it seriously as if real money was at stake. meaning doing due dilligence, FA and TA to the best of my current abilities etc. it seems to me that the possibility of testing your hypothesis, see it play out on the simulator and going back to analyze whether plays worked for the reasons i thought or not or why plays didn't work is a smart thing to do before i risk my actual savings. also, there seems to be quite a lot of people thinking the market will have a general downturn, in which case it also makes sense to learn by the use of simulators.

1. Use it to take a trip to Japan next spring; plane tickets are very cheap right now and I've been planning this trip for a while..

2. Use it to invest in the next release for my record label; I recently started a record label for my own music, and this last release I've done has been surprisingly popular. I made tapes for it, and I'm selling one every day or two. I could use the money to help advertise my next release, or possibly work with a PR company.
