A personal note: Below I'm going to list some scenarios where Monero becomes a dead project. I personally think it has a bright future, but, in the interest of intellectual honesty, you should mention the potential bad outcomes any time you encourage a friend to get involved. Be a realist, not a starry eyed optimist.

1) It's possible that another project could emerge that is legitimately superior to Monero, and that it could become the industry standard privacy coin. If that happens- good! It's more important that liberty and privacy is preserved, and that the state's monopoly on issuing currency is eroded than that our particular project reigns supreme.

2) A ban on Monero could tank the project. I think that it's more likely that prohibiting XMR would lead to increased interest and demand, and furthermore that a ban would be near impossible to effectively implement. You would need literally all world governments and tech providers acting in unison. Still, this is a point worth raising to anyone you're encouraging to get involved.

Please, anons, feel free to expand on this list. We should strive to differentiate ourselves from other communities in crypto- by being be honest about our project's possible shortcomings, and by refraining from the moonboy antics that dominate the most other /biz/ threads. We're all very comfy and we're all excited to see what the future brings- but our first priority has to be spreading the word about what this technology can accomplish.
