They're not paying you for the oil cause it's "lol worthless, death to the petrodollar amirite guis?" They're offering to pay you to take the crude away and store it somewhere properly cause they got fucked. When they decided months ago how much they were going to try and produce for this time frame they didn't factor in a total zero demand due to corona-chan. Now they (and the commodities traders who got caught holding on to a bunch of contracts they cannot possibly get delivered because they're not even close to equipped for that) have millions of gallons of crude that they already pumped out of the ground and they don't fucking have anywhere to put it because the refineries are full and can't/won't take anymore
