It was a job at a horseshoe crab blood processing facility. Fishermen would bring in the crabs every day at 5am and we would puncture them with a needle and drain the blood, then centrifuge it and lyse the white blood cells and extract this chemical that would turn blue in the presence of gram negative bacteria. The chemical is used in prosthetics and other implants as an indicator of contamination.

I got carpal tunnel from using a pipette over and over to the point where I would wake up with my middle finger involuntarily stuck in a contracted position. Also the chemical they used to lyse the blood is bad for your lungs.


I hated it and never wanna go back. Thank God I'm actually making it on the market now so I don't have to take jobs I hate.
