Brave being built on Chromium very much limits what Google can do covertly to try attack, they sabotage Firefox by throttling it's speed on sites they control for example. They could delist Brave from the Android store, but that'd cause a streisand effect in retaliation at this point.
Google diversifying into gaming could backfire bigtime also. Hardcore gamers can be the pickiest people on the planet, and casuals aren't as likely to buy the product at launch. If everything isn't perfect they will fail, and just have another money sink.

As far as what happens when Google tries to retaliate goes, they can't compete by making a carbon copy of BAT as they wouldn't have ad revenue to spare and give to their users. Google has tons of expensive liabilities to pay for; It's search engine, Youtube, Google Earth, Gmail, Diversity hire management, R&D, actual devs, ect. There's nothing left from that to give to users and still make a decent profit.

Brave v1.0 is being released soon and will essentially be chrome with much betyer ad blocking. Shortly after BAT integration with chrome will be completed, then firefox. It will not be tied to the,brave browser. One extra bite, ads will begin running this summer... If you want to know what the implications are for that, read the god damn whitepaper.
