Friend of mine used to work with secure financial servers at a casino in Vegas. He has some stories. One fun one was a woman lost everything she had left in a single night, walked out, and capped herself right out front. Evidently news reported later that she was already in the shit between losing her kids and house, and she probably didn't see a way out besides getting lucky at some slots.
I sometimes wonder how much it eats at the people that run these places, knowing that how they dress up the statistics and machines to sound appealing legitimately ruins people. Surely the people at the top are far enough removed from the guy that loses all but 100 and uses that 100 to drink himself to death in a hotel room, but the guys actually designing the machines? The guys working at the tables that see the light leave someones eyes as they foolishly throw away their last paycheck on a gamble they don't realize is far from their favor? Surely they become calloused quickly or it starts to eat at them.

For a while the GFL general on /vg/ would do a word cloud of the previous thread. Was just for fun, but here it might actually be kind of useful.
