This is exactly what I have been telling my family to keep them from getting to hopeful and to prepare realistically, but there's no reason to assume that it will never happen just because it hasn't. Never have so many labs been so focused on one goal, and we have better tech than we did even 10 years ago.

again, this is a huge assumption based only on past failures. I think it's worth keeping at least maybe 10% hope for the vaccine, and something like 40% hope for antivirals and antibody treatments.

So like, 50% hope, which is more than I would've given humanity for making it to the year 2000 without nuclear annihilation, if you'd have asked me in the 70's and 80's. All in all, that's pretty hopeful.
