I never understood the economic efficiency purpose behind shorting stocks. Derivatives were a mistake.

I stepped away from really paying attention to GME since superstonk first censored the heatlamp theory a while back and have just been zen-holding for the past year or so. Haven't visited the subreddits really at all ever since. What're the biggest developments that I've missed since then?
