Just think about the amount of fund managers out there. Now think about the fact that 80% of them can't beat or match the market. They have a team of research people and resources to find the nuggets of gold that the average joe would miss.

The preponderance of evidence against active management/stock picking should give you comfort. History has proven that if you just buy the entire market as often as you can(DCA), you are better off in the long run. Maybe the next 20-30yrs is different,
Bonus is that you get to go spend your time on other activities and interest

you don't need to get justification from anons on a penny trading blog

Just look up how many professionally managed funds beat the S&P over 15+ yr time horizon, then do it for a 20yr,25yr. time period. Keep in mind that these are teams of professionals.
The only 'trading' fund that has beat the S&P consistently over a 15+yr track record is the Renaissance Technologies fund.

>why mutual funds lose to the index
its just not mutual funds. I dont imagine hedge funds do much better over the long term. Given their fee structure

>t. degenerate gambler

Except the empirical evidence is in stark contrast to your claims.
People on /smg/ and /biz/ seem to think they are better money managers than 80-90% of the mutual fund industry and a large proportion of the hedge fund industry. These fund managers can not even beat the index and at most match it, over a long time horizon

you realize the vast majority of active managers that are the head of mutual and hedge funds cant beat the index. They have large teams of people, access to CEO's, are highly educated and have years of experience 'managing' money.

Just lurk /smg/ for a while and you will see the vast majority cope and seethe at the market because it moves differently then their predictions

Make your choice if its worth your time to devote hours of your life researching the next up and coming company or the current best companies

Nearly all 'all star' managers shit the bed over the long term.
Mot of these managers make some gains early on. but their prime selling feature is their method of finding quality companies. Also, they are primarily a massive PR and marketing firm to raise capital.

If you want to have some fun trading some stocks,go for it. But to say you can craft a long term strategy that will beat the overall market over the long term, is playing with fire. The odds are overwhelmingly against you.

The overwhelming majority of people can not time the market effectively over the long term.
