You could be right. Any given moment tipping could go live in a Brave mobile update. (I've been trying the beta release and it works great if not better than the browser version.) That's well over 5 million+ Brave users who have never once heard of BAT will suddenly get a fun little icon on their screen, offering them a grant and letting them tip people. If only 1% of them buy BAT, that's 50,000 new people buying BAT.

Th-th-they could have used Doge or BitBeans! They can use whatever they want, it's their software, and they chose an ERC20 they made because; A. it funds the project, and B. They can create a User Growth Pool for marketing. Then BAT will be backed by the Brave ads, which will then be backed by advertisers buying a USD amount worth of ads. Meanwhile the rest of the crypto market can rely on drugs fomo and Tether not being a scam.

Adding this, in the case of Google+ it was an attempt at another avenue for datamining/advertising. Would be big for them if it worked out, but not a hill to die on. However their advertising revenue is everything to them. All of Google's 'free' services (Youtube/Google Earth/Gmail/ect.) cost them a ton of money to operate, and the data mining they provide that becomes advertising is how they make it all back. Even if Google tries to compete with BAT, their 'pay the user' Google ads would have to be mediocre at best, so that Google can continue to both profit and not implode under it's own operating costs.
