In an ideal world, you could confine something like a basic income to purely domestic goods and services. There's no use in your country printed a billion a day if half of it gets sent to europe or something.
Foreign products, especially the subscription economy of today, actually does an insane amount to take wealth out of subscribing nations.
This is the same scam they use with importing fruits/vegetables because they're "a couple of cents cheaper". It's not just about saving a few pennies. It's about siphoning wealth from your country to give it to some third world corporation.
Russia had an insane economic recovery despite the sanctions, and I think a huge amount of that is Russians not being able to spend their money internationally. They're FORCED to spend it within their own economy.
I wish that could happen to my country.
