>Kinda off topic but I’ve always been surprised with how inexpensive even some of the more interesting ones are compared to more modern currencies

They're the last best realm of numismatics where bargains are the norm. I've seen plenty of retard collectors of more modern numismatics, but never met a dumbfuck ancient coin collector either. Navigating and collecting ancients is much more complicated than filling a Whitman book of Wheat Cents or Merc dimes, a pursuit that even an idiot like IQDELET could manage if he had any money. Since fresh ancients can only be found randomly by detectorists there has never been an effective way for dealers to control supply, and thus no incentive for them to astroturf demand and aggressively promote ancient coins the way they promoted 20th century US coinage. The variance in patinas, integrity of surfaces, strength of strike, die pairings and the state of the dies and many other factors also makes it far more difficult to build broad market consensus grading and value charts like we have with modern coinage.
>TLDR: Ancients are cheap because normies can't into them.

>it's important you make the difference between collectibles and (((collectibles))). The former comes from genuine and long lasting demand for coins who weren't designed to be collectibles, i.e. coins with sovl. The latter are just cash grab, literally metalslop.
>Don't fall for this shit. If you want to collect coins, you go for Roman denarius, Byzantine empire follis, Greek drachms, medieval groat, colonial florins, whatever stuff with true scarcity and history who float your boat.

Couldn't agree more. There is definitely some money to be made short-term from scalping then flipping some of the currently popular limited releases, but the health and strength of the pool of people who consume modern collectibles fluctuates so they are unreliable long-term investments. All it takes for values to plummet is a cohort of collectors to lose interest and cash out or start dying and have their collections liquidated faster than the remaining pool of interested collectors can absorb the glut, it is an almost universal process we've seen repeated countless times.

Come back anon! Don't let some 1PBTIDs ruin your day or have you questioning the authenticity of everything you've collected. For example I've had anons say that all the silver coins in this pic are fake, but besides checking-out when I studied them under high magnification absolutely no fakes of any types of coins from this whole obscure city-state have been documented. It's easy for envious FUDwits to claim something is fake, but unless it's an extremely poor quality counterfeit you need to be able to study the weight/dimensions, both sides and the edge IRL to confidently make that determination. I think those Thalers are suspect because of the matching toning and milky grey splotchy areas and the fact that I've seen lots of pretty convincing known fake thalers hit the market in the last few years, but I'm no expert in such coins.

Thanks, when a LCS gets weird batches like that which they don't have the time, local demand for or expertise to offload efficiently then bargains can be had. I'm hoping the next collection is a bunch of Greek coins, though I'd have a much harder time letting any go to recoup the investment kek.

>I love investing in silver cattle! :D

Me too in fact, the butting/charging bull motif is sweet. Seleukos I Nikator (305-281 BC) issued a bunch of bronzes with Medusa's head on the front and a charging bull on the reverse which are kino.

Hell yeah I love silver, I'm up over 2X on everything stacked in the past few years too.

Go to https://fishmoxfishflex.com/ and stock up on legit generic pills/caps of normally prescription-only meds being sold via legal loophole. I think the loophole closes in June though so get some sooner than later. You can grow poppies too and then have basically everything covered.

>My mother gave it to me years ago I think and I didn't even know it had silver at first til I read up on the Nuevos pesos on numista. Very cool that silver was still being coined for circulation as recently as 30 years ago.

Very nice, it's an attractive coin anon. A Hispanic friend had me look at his childhood coin collection and he had one of the 10 pesos which he likewise didn't know was silver, then I detected the yard of his grandpa's home which the friend's mom inherited and found and handed over a large copper 1889 Mexican centavo which he and his mom thought was amazing, probably brought from the old country when Gramps immigrated in the 1920s. He doesn't stack but I taught him about silver, he understands it is "God's money" so he got some in 2020 as an emergency reserve which made me happy. Anyway I really like these 1990s bimetallics, modern silver coinage is numismatically noteworthy so I intend to complete the type set, my wife is now considering getting me the 10 and 20 for Christmas which would be cool. I tend to prefer truly old coins but am very impressed with the new pesos, nothing wrong with having a few modern bits in the hoard.

>what's the average % of silver that was used way back then?

A lot of the earlier Greek stuff was close to pure and minted straight from the silver smelted from the ore, so 98-99+% purity was common. Debasement with copper down to the 90-96% range became prevalent as time went on but it varied greatly depending on the polity/region.

>Any vendors

Sure, I like eBay because that's where good deals can be found, here's my pasta:

When buying ancient coins on eBay, you must always check the Fake-Sellers lists for the seller's user ID to determine if they are trustworthy:
http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=18502.0
http://augustuscoins.com/ed/fakesellers.html

Some legit sellers occasionally have fakes slip through too so checking fake coin reports for the specific issues can be helpful, but generally not necessary for most common sub-$100 coins:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/

For identifying coins, these online encyclopedic databases are fantastic:
https://www.wildwinds.com/coins/i.html
https://www.asiaminorcoins.com/

Sellers I've bought ancients from with no issues, many are European so you need to select the "Worldwide" refinement under the "Item Location" section on the left side of the page or you won't see anything. Some sellers don't have anything listed right now but you can check their completed listings to see what they deal in:

Personal favorites, del550 has great stuff but crappy low-effort listings so good deals can often be scrounged:

>What is that? I want it.

A copper medallion lamenting the Weimar hyperinflation, Germans made assloads of colorful notgeld currency, tokens and medals back then and most are pretty cheap. I'll need to post some of my paper money collection sometime. Here's one but if you look around you can find one for half the price: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284822460974
