Less “doomer” and more “zoomer”.

Because kids don’t remember the world before the 2000s, they don’t know how people used to validate payments in physical currency, whether paper fiat or before that, PMs.

Pic related: Asians liked European silver coins when first introduced, but were wary of fakes. So local bullion and coin traders would assess and put “chop marks” on them to confirm to anyone receiving them as payment that they had been examined. Fun fact: the terms yen, won, and yuan that refer to the Asian currencies today literally mean “round”, because circular coins were a foreign novelty to them in the 18th and 19th centuries.
