It just means gold is not in negative correlation mode with the index at this time. Now, gold is not exactly a hedge against market downturn as recent example of positive correlation during March crash showed. It can trend with or against the index for short term periods, either way. I consider it more of a wildcard that benefits from nerves about inflation but not necessarily market drawdown.
