Yeah I love my dad. There was a lot her did right. I wouldn't be here without him, but he did stunt my growth in some areas with his parenting style which was extremely authoritarian and never really got a pat on the back no matter how good I did. Always made me fee like I was a failure. Once I moved out and was in control of my own life and no longer needed to live under his approval, my life got a lot better. Lately, I've learned not to hold it against him. He did his best and a lot of this is probably baggage from his own upbringing. I love him, but need to keep my distance sadly. He does seem like he's becoming aware and I think he's starting to better himself. We'll see.

Anons, try to think critically about your parents. Make sure your thoghts are balanced meaning make sure you take into account the things they did right. No parent is perfect and they all likely suffered in their own upbringing and never learned any different.
