Built my own house and other structures, unironically in Russia in a siberian village looking like OP pic.

I bought my 10 coткa plot in 2015 for about 300k rubs, which at that time was like $5000 for 1/3rd acre. Built a small izbushka shed to live in while I built the full house with my father in law. Probably put another $5k in materials for the house, which I'm still expanding. I'm definitely a newb when it comes to winter architecture. My father-in-law dumped this sand in my attic (pic) which I assume is insulation.

Another thing, if you have kids in Russia, Putin gives you gibs through the Motherhood Fund (мaтepинcкий кaпитaл) which can be used for the kids education or "dwelling for the mother / kids". We got about $6k for the first and $9k for the second which I used all on building out on the property.

This is the inside of the left house. Its more like a log cabin surrounded by another structure with the roof. My father-in-law threw this sand on the ceiling which I learned is actually how they used to insulate.

Here is the unfinished attic, which is now a good summer sleeping spot.

Right now I'm living / working in the US, and what I've been doing is going to Russia from May through October on the Private Stay Visa. Now they locked the borders so this year I had to cancel. My in-laws live in it now and over each winter.
