The US economy is fucked. No matter what happens, we can not be #1 anymore within our lifetimes. The way that Trump, Bush, Obama, Biden, and all of our past presidents since WW2 have operated is by encouraging unsustainable exponential growth that simply cannot last. This leads us going into unsustainable, exponential debt that eventually defaults as our economy collapses (fiat currency).
BUT, there is one way to win. There is one way for the US to experience stagflation instead of hyperinflation or a deflationary depression. I don't think the President or any other politicians see it, but if I were President, this is what I'd immediately do.
I would buy the FUCK out of EU, Norwegian, Swiss, Danish, Swedish, Korean, and Japanese treasury bonds, while the dollar still has value.
Why, you may ask? Because the US is about to default on their debt, those countries have a functional economy that isn't based on debt, and they're democratic capitalist countries and not fascist shitholes like China and Russia. In other words, our fiat system is about to explode, and their fiat systems will explode with us unless we willingly transfer some of our wealth (our fiat debt economy) back to the countries that we're indebted to. The current US will become like current Japan and experience stagflation because of this, but current Japan's not that bad yknow. It's a nice country, the world will look at hollywood with the same weirdness that we look at anime, but who gives a fuck, at least we won't have a civil war and political upheaval. At the same time, we'd be ensuring that our fascist enemies that we're indebted to, China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, we'd be ensuring that their fiat system and economy DOES explode.
It's a fucking genius political move that would only require the US to not be the most corrupt country on earth and shoot itself in the foot, oh well.
