I lived in China for a while, and even what we imagine would be "liberal types" such as gays, art students, and so on would be considered hyper nationalist, far right types by modern western standards, the same as men working menial labour. This is unity and effeciency. There is no resentment to large swaths of the population, everyone can work together as a cohesive unit. I believe this lends greatly to their recent success.
