i wouldn't think of it as "how bad do i lose". more like: "what are the odds that if i buy now, i will be able to sell for a profit afterward?" just look at the current level and compare to the previous high of 2022. it might re-test that high and break above it. it might test it and fall lower. what exactly would propel it higher, just the expectation that money is rapidly losing value so you might as well park it in the world's biggest companies?

i don't get this FOMO urge to buy *after* shit has been on such a tear, or the opposite of fearing to buy when something has flat-lined at a bottom.

buying SPY at the start of 2023 was clearly the smart move. buying it now in mid Jan of 2024? i personally wouldn't take that chance. risk vs reward.
