I don't think so anon, the junior miners we're talking about and popular here are speculative and should not be considered as blue chips where you buy and hold forever. Your DD should yield an exit price and the lifetime of a mine is finite as well much like business cycles in industry.
Commodities however can be very volatile with regard to the broader economy. Since we are super bearish about the economy worldwide, it ironically is a good hodl right now but there are gains to be made by trading. I guess you could say that about the blue chip stocks too.

No such luck. He is also losing his pension. Which is a really fucked course of action on the part of the company. He's going to use the same lawyer his ex-boss used. He apparently came out alright, so who knows.

Any suggestions on actions he should take before leaving his offices? He's already recording any conversations he has with his superiors, for posterity when he meets with his lawyer.
