Everyone in the US, and all other crony Western republics need to ask this. 100 years ago, income taxes were ZERO. Federal governments financed themselves with taxes from international mega rich importers and excise taxes.

They weren't tax raping working people. They weren't tax raping businesses that employ working people. They were taxing megacorporate activity. How can we even begin to pretend that monarchies were more "oppressive" when they rarely even hit 10%? And we end up giving away 40-60% of everything we ever make in all of these layers of megataxes to fund a massive state grift and wealth redistribution scheme?

You can partake in a system while being opposed to that system. Communists eat food that was grown and sold for a profit. They live in private property. Ted Kaczynski used modern infrastructure to spread his message about living primitively.

1. The world wars provided an easy crisis to capitalize on, introduce "temporary emergency taxes" and then not roll them back
2. Women got the right to vote and are fine with high taxes since they are utterly non ambitious and consider the state their fill in sugar daddy

Lefties here will freely suggest taxes as a way of discouraging certain things or behaviors (like carbon taxes), but then immediately about face when you suggest odious amounts of income tax depress the economy and discourage hard work and productivity.

Income taxes were one of our worst societal mistakes and a classic shylock bait and switch, taking advantage of a wartime economy and society to introduce a "new paradigm" that never left. If someone had the balls to slash the federal budget by 50%, almost wholly eliminate income taxes, and implement higher taxes elsewhere, we would have a golden age.

Except they had to literally strike down foundational laws and protections in order to do what you're describing. You're being utterly contradictory. No, the founders did not sit there and say "open the floodgates, no tariffs or trade restrictions."

Our federal government was quite literally FUNDED by trade protectionism. You're wrong.

Look at all of these good goys. That's right tariffs are bad! If you tax megarich internationalist import/export corporations then you lose! What you really want is no tariffs and income taxes on your own work. That way a company built up by American infrastructure can suddenly ship the factory off to Malaysia, bounce you down to minimum wage and tax you 30% per hour for the privilege. No refunds! :-D

It's a hellscape of taxes on taxes on taxes. Your dollar is taxed about 10 different times. The absurd thing is that a solid chunk of society have been trained to cheerlead it too.

Governments took advantage of the depression/ww2 crises to ram them through. They were pitched as "emergency measures", before the states deceitfully made them the new normal. If they were called "work tax" and not "income tax" people might start to think about how cancerous they are.

Case in point, word games like "progressive system", "regressive system". Who coined "progressive system"? Rich people and their media/economist acolytes. Literally do whatever the opposite is of what they're saying. Want to know why they neutered out tariffs/excise tax? Because the only people subject to those were rich, internationalist businessmen, importers and exporters. We offloaded the burden to the working class instead and to this day they remain divided and brainwashed into thinking this is a "progressive" system. Utterly fucking tragic.

This is something working class people of all stripes, left right or whatever, need to get behind.

They are a scam. At this nation's inception and for a long time after, we financed the state through real state revenue: tariffs and excise taxes. Taxes on rich international businessmen and their products.

Sometime around the world wars we get tricked into trading that for taxes on the WORK of your average man. An absurd concept when you aren't normalized to it.

You'll notice the moment you merely mention tariffs you'll have a horde of (((top economists))) and (((journalists))) crowing and braying about how that will ruin everything.... lol. This country is cucked.

I don't think you really understand how the world works. It isn't as simple as "lower taxes... they must be corporate fanboys!". You'll notice the richest corporations in this country donate to and support leftist politicians.

Big corporations don't dislike rules and regulations. They buy the government and weaponize them to entrench their power. In a "socialist utopia", ironically enough, everything is a monopoly, some state backed all powerful corporate entity. In a real free market, they are constantly warding off upstart competition and can only survive if they improve.

As far as income taxes go... please don't cheerlead the tax enslavement of the common working man. It's one of the biggest kike schemes in this country's history and normal people should unilaterally be against them. Imagine taxing WORK.

No, you just enforce it. You don't set a tax to soft-enforce it. Taxes are for bureaucratic self-enrichment and always backfire. The rich evade it, and the common man gets the bill.

>tariffs are actually like super duper really really bad oppose all at all costs

Yes good goy, the taxes on rich internationalist businessmen and importers are bad for all of us, what isn't bad for all of us is taxing Joe McNumbnuts who works 50 hours at the car shop for $40k per year

It's actually GREAT for all of us that those taxes got placed as a burden on our own earnings instead!
