I'm an analyst working on one of several teams tasked with integrating block-chain internally at one of the world's largest banks (Think Goldman, Deutsche etc).

Seems to be a great deal of interest in whether or not, when and how Global Banking will deal with Cryptos.

Listen Goys, there's no talk of getting involved with any existing virtual currencies. Institutional money is not in BTC or any other coin. In brief, the long play seems to be toward the creation of an institutional coin to be used within and between IB's and governments. The goal is to mitigate the risks associated with conducting business via state-sponsored fiat currencies arising from the intentional manipulation of currency value by government actors. The Blockchain will be available only to those with an economic interest in said virtual currency.

This would aim to act as a secure store of value, representative of the purchasing power of the currency it's exchanged for - relative to that of other major currencies. Ideally, this will become the global standard used to tender debts when the involved parties conduct business using different currencies.

Gov sponsored Fiats will shrink in scope and become more or less geographically isolated. Devaluing currency will seize to have such global implications, regulatory headaches will be greatly reduced and the Institutional Banks secure their continued involvement in every aspect of all global commerce. Institutional money has little interest a consumer coin, the aim is to use block chain to create an institutional coin before BTC postures itself to do the same.
Beyond that, BTC is a game for the goys. The buzz around BTC's volatility is seen as a welcomed distraction,a diversion while we institutionalize block-chain and usher in the future of high finance.
