Holy fucking shit am I glad I read this.

I wanted to buy a put to protect my NVDA position which is 140% up but becomes long term only in May, so it was a nice way to protect my gains and reduce the tax. Turns out that would have made all my shares short term, what the fuck. Why is this even the case?
