easier said than done. You can't make it on 1 million with just a normal 7-8% market return. I mean, you "could", if you will be fine living off of between 0-50k and putting 2% in just to cover inflation. But at that amount I think you could still run into financial stress if a series of bad, expensive things happen to you or if there is a market downturn that tanks your yearly income and induces you to possible draw from your investments (which would already be hurting so you'd be reducing your account even more).

But if you want a mostly RISK FREE non-wagie life, you basically need anywhere from 5-10 million. Then you'd be getting enough to live comfortably even if you or someone you care about gets cancer, and market downturns would just diminish your income but not tank it so much you're doing temp work.

Ideally you could get even more lucrative streams of income than the market, like a great property with regular, quality tenants that could net you 30-50% yield over time. Then you could be fine with a million, and looking very rich with 5-10.

Auto-driving cars still require drivers. The AI can't handle the millions of situations that aren't programmed into it. Factory robots are still slower than humans and can't handle certain tasks. Elon Musk tried the automation route for Tesla cars, but failed.

The reality is we're in technological stagnation right now. Although there's tons of stuff being researched and invented every year, none of them are truly revolutionary.
