I know plenty of engineers, scientists, etc... They all get stuck eventually moving from project to project, lab to lab while the business people make all the business decisions and reap all the benefits.

I would say the best possible route is computer science (make sure you can actually construct software) and a humanities major that isn't fucking bullshit, like philosophy.

Also make sure you really understand your stats classes. And yes I said CLASSES not a single class. Take more than what's required.

Economics will serve you well. You need to go after it though nothing will be handed to you post grad
