only if you're being genuine.
what you should advertise most is you're reliable. that's what companies generally want. low risk drone that will show up every day.
>>10858834
yes and no.
If you know you'd have no problem getting another job, simply put in your two weeks notice to the manager (don't tell anyone else). If they really want to keep you they will give you what you want. they can save face by offering you something to stay in the job rather than everyone thinking you're going to quit and you suddenly don't.
Some people say to look for another job and have the job offer in hand, but to me that's just stringing another company along. Might hurt your reputation too as companies tend to talk to each other about candidates.

On average it takes me about 2 months to find a new job. I might get lucky and manage sooner...but my finances are actually tight and I don't want to miss the pay. I had a lot of big emergency expenses lately.
Thanks though, I'll keep that in mind. I heard the "job offer in hand" advice, but frankly I've never received a written offer from any job. Maybe that would work in the 80's.
I don't think they would outright fire me as too much of a troublemaker...? I really hate this politics shit. Where's the middle ground between troublemaking asshole or weak-chinned doormat?

if you're a temp it usually means you're young without experience and basically expendable.
once you have a good chunk of savings and experience you have more negotiating power since you can quit without any negative repercussions.

The question is always "how easy am I to replace?". If the answer is easy, you have no negotiating power. If the answer is "it'll take them 6 months to train a new hire, and they only hire people with a degree or certs that I have" , you have some power.

>"it'll take them 6 months to train a new hire, and they only hire people with a degree or certs that I have" ,
Well, I have some power then, I have a degree and 7 months of experience. But no, that's a good breakdown. I am hesitant on it because I know I shouldn't push too hard, I'm still a small dog. But fuck man.
Thing is someone else is leaving in a week and I'm taking over their job in addition to mine. Obviously I want some fucking compensation.

>> No.10859341

>>10859203
what happened to me was i was in the position for 8 months and i'd asked for a raise twice and they made up bullshit excuses. (i was lowballed on my initial offer and was already outperforming the senior in my role)
my manager liked me and I was doing good work, and realistically it would have took at least 6 months minimum to get anyone to my level of competence
when i told them I was quitting they immediately offered a raise.
i didn't want it anymore by then but when they play the stupid game you have to use the same bullshit to them back.

I would steer clear of simply replying "career advancement". It can come off as self-indulgent when the hiring team is looking for someone who shares their goals (or is at least fun/friendly to work with).

>> No.10863155

>>10858834
holy fuck anon, if they told you it was a temp job, you should have been looking for other work the whole time.

finding a good job is like dating.
try to keep more than one on the line at any given time, and do not put all your eggs in one basket.

and dating is like buying a car.
realize that you wont keep that car for the rest of your life. take good care of it, spend money when you need to, but always be checking the classifieds for better options. never buy new unless your sure you want to be the first and last owner.

watch some excel advanced functions tutorials on youtube (and intro, if you never used it)

expect some vlookup, sum, formatting and generally know how to handle it, so you don't look like you're totally fresh when getting questions

>> No.10863239

>non technical interview
End every response with a question. If your interview consists of you answering question after question you failed. The guy that gets the job is the Chad that had the confidence to engage the interviewer in a conversation.

Example: I want to work at this company because blah blah blah. How long have you worked here Mr. Hiring manager? Wow, that's great, what is your favorite part about this company? How have things changed over the years?

>> No.10863261

>>10863180
what part of temp-to-hire is suppose to give you the expectation that you will be hired? If they wanted you, they'd just hire you. You gotta get inside their head.

that's just like going into a relationship "we're friends with benefits, but if it lasts more than a month we'll get married."
you better be sending some flirty texts off to other women just to keep your practice up.
Just because you're tired from working your main source doesn't mean you are allowed to let off the hunt.

I'm sorry to say this anon, but you're never going to make it.

At jiffy lube, the turnover rate is immense, but its impossible to get fired once you're trained because most people quit before then

One guy was a regular no call no show, had 16 write ups for it, and nobody liked him. He ended up QUITTING (not getting fired)
