>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Its not that simple. If we pass the "point of no return" we will end up in a credit driven spiral downward.

Now the problem is that nobody knows when that has actually happened. We might be in a correction or this might be the start of a massive recession.

Unless you can do stress tests through pro-forma financial statements and be able to model the spillover effects on other industries, you literally can't tell if this is just a correction or not.

However, given the substantial amount of leverage in the economy I would proceed with caution. Following this drop I've invested in low debt industries with high margins at a fair price. This is likely the best way forward as the risk/reward for companies with bloated balance sheets just isn't there yet to justify building positions.

>There's really no economic reason for the fed to keep raising rates. It seems like they're caught in the mental trap that they either need to raise rates or lower them, otherwise they're not doing their job.

They need to be raised coming off the 2016 rally in to 2017 bull run. However, Powell's plan is too fast. Four hikes in a single year was obviously more than the market could take at this time. The most recent really pissed everyone off because the market was right on the precipice of breaking critical low support for the year, which it then promptly did after Powell did his hike AND forecasted a further two more for 2019. It showed him to be blind to the long term ramifications of the rapid hikes. Particularly so when the Fed's own numbers showed inflation had pulled back. Fed raising rate when inflation is down was baffling and naturally caused a panic. Now we're in the sharpest correction this decade and it's largely Powell's fault; both for overestimating the strength of the market and aggressively pushing ahead with his plan despite numbers showing the earlier rates were already having the desired effect.

The housing bubble was just facilitated by low interest rates. From 2005 to 2008 the Federal Reserve had rate hikes, but those hikes didn't impact until much later when people needed to refinance their shitty zero interest loan a few years down the track.

The same is true today, but we were never going to be able to get to the 5 to 6% interest rate that it was prior to the 2008 crash because of how much debt was funneled into the system, and how long interest rates were at zero.

The market is shitting the bed and it's not even 3%.

I think the reason why the US was able to rally so hard since Trump's election is purely due to his irresponsible fiscal policy which has emulated Reagan in cutting taxes but increasing spending.

This is how hopeless bulls are. Remember in 2008 the market went down, people said it was nothing then it went down a lot THEN people tried to figure out why and thats how we know. Where do you think are now in that cycle? Companies are slowly downgraded to BBB/junk status. They were only being kept afloat by a rosy macroeconomic forecast and projected earnings. Any downturn will cause a positive feedback loop. This is just one possible cause.

BREAKING: Trump has discussed firing Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell as his frustration has intensified after this week’s interest-rate increase and months of stock-market losses.
> Advisers close to Trump aren’t convinced he will try to do it, but say he wants to.
Trump has talked privately about wanting to fire the Fed chair many times in past few days.
Any such attempt would have potentially devastating ripple effects on markets, undermining investors’ confidence in Fed’s ability to shepherd the economy without political interference.
It’s unclear how much legal authority the president has to fire Jay Powell.
And at least one of Trump’s economic advisers, Kudlow, has said a president can’t fire Federal Reserve chair without cause.
That hasn’t stopped Trump from expressing his desire to get rid of Powell.

NPCs, it's all posturing. He needs to introduce the possibility that Powell could be fired to fuel speculation of a possible market rise as a result of it. This speculation will lessen the decline in the market. Moves like this are how the fed and other institutions drive the market without actually doing anything. It's all a fucking game. You dont learn economics if you want to be a successful /trader/, if you're trading at any rate shorter than a couple months you're basically gambling and youre better off learning technical analysis or whatever.

You learn economics if you want to be a /successful/ investor. It's good to know mainstream econ. But you should also have a grasp of the overall meta of the field, its history, and the heterodox alternatives. I suggest starting with contending economic theories by richard wolff, then go through Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Karl Marx. Understand what drives long waves and form your strategy around those long term trends. A fundamental understanding of statistics and probability is also helpful.

Adding to this to not read the textbooks. Read the books written by the actual originators of the theory. Textbooks manage to somehow oversimplify the subtleties and dilute the core message.

Also, play some market before you try to using real money. Managing a lot of MMO money help me see market phenomena first hand which attached an intuition to otherwise abstract concepts. If you're planning to short a stock, you better know what accumulation looks like, not just what it is. Someone might look at how down we are and think "Only 1% a day, it might be the bottom soon". Funds have been selling the volume distribution all this week. I did the exact same shit when I would put more potions up on the weekend vs weekdays because that is when the most sold. This tells you that they want to sell without lowering the price because they have a lot to dump and we are going a lot lower.

Emperor Trump knew uncle Powell is a rape hike guy (like Reagan and Volker) meaning the dollar supply will be drained

The American empire isn't going anywhere, and I say that as a non-American. There's no other power to take its place.
Russia? No way. They have neither the financial capital nor the human capital to build a strong economy and a stable society on. Pretty much the same goes for China. These countries might have strong leadership, but very little innovation themselves compared to their size. China might have grown its middle class, but the fundamentals of their society and their mindset will be a blocking factor in their long term growth.
Worst case scenario for America is multi- or bipolar world order, with the other big players becoming stronger in their sphere of influence, but there are long decades to go before any other country would even come close to America's importance.
And Europe? Europe is a joke as it is now.

Here is the plan boys. I have 50k right now. With Robinhood gold I can invest 100k on margin. When the s&p hits 2200 I start buying ProShares Ultra S&P500 which is a triple leveraged etf. I think there are some restrictions with Robinhoods margin, so some of it might need to go into normal SPY. I keep buying as the market keeps falling.

It does actually. The triple leveraged etf raises and lowers at about 3X the volatility as a normal SPY etf would. Robinhood's margin is just a loan from them that doubles your available money, which means I have 100k to invest into the triple leveraged etf. If SPY goes up 17% SSO should move about 50% (historical data proves this is more or less true). Because of the Robinhood loan that means I double my money with that 50% increase.

You are everything bad in the the economy. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten any profits? I mean, I guess it's fun making fun of people because of their gambling addictions on weekly options and chinese scam stocks, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than buying BGFV at $9.50.

Don't be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shorts. I'm pretty much perfect. I am Chair of the Federal Reserve of the United States, and hand picked by President Trump. What investments do you make, other than "buying the LCI dip because of muh share structure and epic short squeeze"? I also get mad gains, and have a banging hot interest rate (I just did some rape hikes; Shit was SO crash). You are all faggots who should just liquidate your portfolios and apply for a job at McDonald's. Thanks for listening.

I know trump doesn't care about the public debt very much but it still does't make much sense for a lot of reasons. 1, it's more expense for the US to do a bunch of fiscal stimulus while rates are higher. 2, crowding out means that the govt is absorbing more of loan-able funds while liquidity is being restricted.

All that said, Trump hasn't even done that much in public projects yet. Neither infrastructure spending or the wall have been passed as of today.
