I think it means that as shorts are open they pay funding. If BTC doesn't move then a 50x short would get liquidated after 1 week just because it has to pay funding. Which will eat margin and slowly your liquidation price creeps down. So idk. Could mean a major squeeze is coming before going lower.

If it does go down. It will be very choppy. Shorts are pretty much forced to close with such a high funding. They can't keep it open to long. Anyway expect volatility to become high af. Maybe someone in options can play around with this. I would if I knew more about options to trade it.

>> No.13466028

I shorted ACB, a Canadian weed stock at a prop trading office, with a 100% borrow rate last July at about 8$cad closed it at 7$cad. It still fell way lower to 5.34$cad.

Short are gonna try to milk every dollar out of you hodler it's still going to get way uglier before it gets better.

>> No.13466067

You could sell synthetic call if the put options aren't pricing the borrow rate, which you would notice by comparing the implied volatility between calls and puts.

>> No.13466080

>>13466067
yeah I know volatility is supposed to be a major factor in option pricing and profitability. But I just really don't understand what options to buy to actually turn a profit. Have done some research into it but I'm pretty busy trading anyway.

I couldn't find Bitcoin options accessible to retail traders 4-5 months ago. If you could link me up with an option book I could give you my input on it.

>>13466094
You look at the stock chart and you trade the options to capitalize on different patterns. It's a more powerful way to profit of a chart (and pretty much manipulate it to an extent since you can get a way bigger exposure this way).

Possibly, not necessarily. If BTC goes sideways though shorts are going to have to close as their margin gets eaten away. I had the same on BitMex not long ago. I was in a pretty big short relative to my trading size and although it was profitable I was sort of forced to close as I was paying 3% per 8 hours to keep it open. Wasn't worth the risk/reward anymore.

>> No.13466197

>>13466177
yeah the BitMex options are a literal scam. Fuck you Arthur. It's litterly rigged only for BitMex to profit. It's not worth the bother. There's only a fraction of probability of making a profit because of how they price that shit.

>> No.13466199

>>13466126
no, the people lending get theirs fees.
The exchanges take a cut sure, but it's the individual lenders who want people to keep their shorts open as long as possible.
It means people aren't willing to lend bitcoin to short so the demand exceeds supply.

The historical volatility is at its 2 week low which might be a good time to buy longer dated option.

It's "easy" to profit off barts if you buy a straddle (1puts 1call atm) and you hedge your delta every 12 hours. You would then have paid for your straddle through delta scalping.

Depending on if you have a view on the market and if you wanna hedge your position you could obviously sell calls while the bear continue and add to your core btc position with the profits.

>>13466197
It's priced through black and scholes usually. If you disagree with the price, sell the options naked or through a strategy where youre short vega such as a butterfly. Or market make with a slightly tighter spread and hedge your delta.

I actually have a market making option software I wrote. I'll backtest it on their API. Im hyped.

You can't be a seller on BitMex options. Not sure if I should even call them options. Only BitMex can sell.

What if I know that within the next hours BTC will go up/down what which options would you buy? Can you recommend me some sources to learn more about options?

>> No.13466442

>>13466373
You grab otm option with a short expiry. It's about the same as doing a leveraged trade but you could get fucked on the spread.

You'd make more profits in certain case if you play the volatility right and you wouldn't get liquidated if the market flash crash and ends up above your strike price at expiry.

There is a book by John C Hull that's the main reference on options and other derivatives. I also read Option volatility trading strategies by Natenberg. I also got a PDF online course from an option hedge fund manager trader. I can email you a copy.
