How many jobs are going to be lost if you add all this up?

Automation is just a Jewish conspiracy. Behind every one of those "robots" is some Jew with a remote controller. It's just an excuse to increase government regulation.

Don doesn’t really need the job anyways. Retirees just get bored. He can find another hobby. Doubt Walmart would cut them, though. They really don’t cost the company hardly anything, and it gives them a warm human face when the customers first walk in. I hate Walmart, but I have to give them credit for employing these old people who they definitely don’t need.

am I the only one that thinks if I was 98 and bored it could be kinda fun to do a chill part-time greeter-esque job for a few hours a day? seems like a great way to get out of the house and meet people

this, its posted here as though he has no choice but to work at walmart for a pittance. fact is, he probably just does it cause it lets him meet new people every day and he gets to people watch. it's like sitting on the park bench feeding birds, but you're getting paid.

>automation maximalism
A red herring created by outsourcing maximalists. That (((economist))) in the VICE trade war documentary should be ashamed of herself for disingenuously omitting the rise of real manufacturing jobs in mexico and china as they related to the timely loss of them here. What a cunt.

Anyway, most old people work shit jobs not because they have to but because the alternative is sitting alone in a group home with condescending double digit IQ orderlies while eating Werther's Originals and staring at a wall all day. Because they were born before the information age they've had a hard time adjusting to life outside of work and they see dignity where we see indignity. The concept and appeal of sitting in a dark room for 10 hours a day furiously masturbating to 2D ganguro muscle girls and posting on this flatulent shithead of a board is lost on them.

Hopefully the town is very white, because if I greeted Walmarts here in Chicago, it'd probably be 90% niggers and spics by the time I'm 98.

Wow what a greedy piece of shit. He ruined the country in his youth and now is selfishly clinging on to one of the few jobs available, fucking over the youth yet again, just so he can talk to people. Wow, what an armless cunt almost.

The last OCDE studies project 20 to 35 % of workforce "displaced" before 2030. I think the US stood at 25-28%.
I have the graph on my home computer, I'll post it if the thread is still up when I get back

No one can predict the future; I'm sure the people that invented the ATM in the 70s thought that it was over for bankers too but there's still millions of the bastards. Besides, there was a time in the not so distant past that the employment participation rate was far lower than it is now, and that's despite what automation has been developed and oldheads like the guy in OP working through retirement as a hobby. Technology takes away jobs but also provides unforeseen opportunities.

I hate this shit. It takes the soul of everything. My McD has those now. I went there once and never again. Sometimes at late evening I used to go there and buy a coffee and maybe a cheeseburger and just sat there comfyly watching people and thinking a bit about random stuff. Since these giant ipads are there the comfyness is gone. Fuck you Ronald

>> No.14947602

The beauty of automation is the timing. You're going to have tens of millions with no job at the same time you have an extremely underfunded police force because automated cars have put an end to speeding tickets and drunk driving and red light violations and all the other bullshit fines they use to fund their departments.

Jobs are not going to be "lost". There will just be greater access to wealth with people doing other, less taxing jobs such as programming. It's what happened in the industrial revolution and it's what going to happen now.

People who don't understand this should take economics 101 before they're going to impose regulation that limits economical growth and think of retarded things such as the ubi

>> No.14947775

He probably doesn't do the job because we all know boomers are very responsible with money and saving for retirement. He is doing it to meet people and find new friends. Going to church or social clubs and activities just doesn't foster the deep intimacy and riveting conversation you can get by standing at the door of walmart.
