The CEO of my company announced we're "investing more in R&D", but what he meant was that US devs get laid off and twice as many devs hired out of Bangalore.

We didn't get bonuses this past fiscal year, instead select people were given "vested restricted stock awards" for shares of the company stock. You don't actually get the stock until 3 years after the plan starts though. This was timed right before the layoffs, so it's a strategy to keep other employees from resigning out of disgust by dangling the carrot over their heads. It's literally called our "Long-Term Incentive Program" and we had a whole WebEx meeting where the greasy white hamplanet HR ladies squeaked excitedly about it for half an hour. It's supposedly a "sign of growth" for the organization and "proof that the company values our developers".

It's not even worth that much, like $15k over the course of 3 years. That's assuming the stock price will even be the same in 3 years, it's been on a downward slope for the past 5.
