There are all three popping in and out of the thread. Depends on the day. I am mostly swing trader. Which you choose to do is determined by how much time you want to devote to the market, whether you can, or are willing to, monitor things for all of market hours or no. Depends how expensive it is for you to trade, meaning trying to day trade outside the US with their free brokers is often fruitless without a sufficiently large account as the fees from frequent trading will eat your gains. Do you want to focus on fundamental analysis of companies or trade more based on technical analysis of charts? Perhaps you'd like to trade against the index with leverage or with options to make money. All depends.

I aim for no set percentage however I do try to cap losing trades at preferably no greater than 5% loss. Exiting a successful trade, I do one half profit take at first consolidation point or immediately on large spike up and put a trailing stop on the remainder. If bullish continuation setup forms, I buy back in with the profit taken half. Selling is determined by signs shown to me by my indicators or stop loss triggers.

Well thanks. Doesn't always work out so cleanly though. Ramp up and them drop straight down without hesitation can result in a break even trade instead of a win for me. The ^ pattern. Best case is a couple days of sideways movement before it decides whether it wants to keep going up or putter out and slump like windsock on calm day. Absolutely perfect exit scenario for my strat is a double top. When those happen, my gizmos and widgets frequently tell me to sell spot on right near the top of the move.

Oh wow cool! I just tried out the one app, and I guess there's the other one you can actually use for trading if you set it up with your broker, but it might just be futures any commodities.

And it does have cool little indicators and things... If only I knew how to use them all... if only there were a class on all this that would just tell me what to focus on! All these pivot points and moving averages and oscillators and channels... there's so much to learn, and then so much to learn not to use once I know how to use it!

That's kind of exciting actually, or it will be once I get far enough into it to get it. And that doesn't even take into account things like balance sheet evaluation... maybe I should take an accounting course too.

Are these the kinds of indicators you use to do your trades? Or do you use some sort of scripting, or excel spreadsheet? Or just some sort of elaborate checklist?

I set a dickbuy order for NTDOY in the morning... just a market buy at market open. Too crazy?

i want to be in it for ASH but selling and buying back lower is nice too, but maybe it doesn't even go down and i get fucked. i think trump is doing the china trade war talk on wednesday though right? maybe sell off today and buy back after he inevitably says something that tanks the market?

The stock pumps on positive trial data or gene therapy sector hype (eg. buyout of a competitor with gene therapy pipeline).

This new CART trial is pure hype.

If you are a trader, take profits. If you are a Buffett-sama believer, hodl until the hemophilia catalyst plays out (buyout or FDA approval).

Risk for the thesis: competitors' therapy being much more efficient and well-priced (eg. BioMarin is on its way to commercialize their therapy).

same, i've heard nothing but good things about SB-525 since ISTH in July, and then they got the new CFO and board of directors, science board, etc. now this car-T shit is even more good news, but my whole thesis was basically "im going to hold until it spikes unless i hear anything bad about the SB-525 data" and it's just gotten better and better over time. the main issue has been management problems and that has become better and better over the months with new hires.

just seems like as close to a guaranteed lock as you can get in biotech, i would just be absolutely floored if the data was bad on SB-525. everything else they have i don't care about, but when the other stuff does well it obviously helps. i figure the higher it goes pre-ASH the more de-risked i am if things go bad.

trust me i want to continue to be in this stock but i bought in way too high (i bought in during that july 8th ISTH spike, and have since averaged down over time). just look at that fucking daily chart. it's pretty obvious that it's going to spike again on ISTH and then have a huge selloff again, i want to sell on the spike and then buy back in when it drops and bottoms out. i was planning on doing that last time (earnings) but then trump came in with the tariffs on 300b worth of chines goods and the whole fucking market tanked and ruined it.

literally just buy that bottom area every time it's free money at this point. i would be cautious about shorting at the top but biotech is notorious for having news events that are few and far between and usually scheduled ahead of time.

the posters here do NOT want to hear it for some reason.
It's not some high risk PnD biotech. They're a genomics juggernaut, they have a higher level of technical ability in their segment than any other business. They are doing real sci-fi stuff with genetics, their pipeline and partnerships are gold-plated. It's nuts. $12 is nothing for this stock, this is still the buy zone, not the sell zone.

that's a normal thing that happens with thin volume options on RH. If the books that RH tracks only show one really high ask, then the price that RH thinks is massive. As orders get put in the book the price becomes more realistic. But the only real way to know an option price is to get an order filled.

We know he is intentionally pumping markets. That's indisputable. But to what end, we don't know.

His Administration is so porous with leaks that it's not inconceivable that information is getting leaked out into the hands of high rollers so they can play the markets.

It's more likely he's doing it just because he thinks the value of the stock market correlates directly with the economic performance of the country. The way he talks about the S&P 500 is like he'd talk about one of his Hotels.

thanks to whoever pumped SGMO up over 12% in the pre market today, real nice cushion against this trump bullshit.

i mean, trump is right and china really does need to be dealt with, but it sucks how reactionary so many people are to this shit (or i guess, how reactionary the algos are...). on the other hand, it makes me really want to look into what has historically happened with every major trump china trade war announcement.

Trump speaks tough when the market is at all time highs and he caves when the markets are in free-fall.

This was demonstrated back in May. We were cockteased about a deal all throughout April, and in the end the Chinese walked away. Market took a 10% dive until June 3rd, when Trump called the Chinese and asked for negotiations to continue.

>China wants business as usual so they can become the world power and apply their bullshit on a global scale
>Trump fucking up that plan but he's only president for 4 to 8 years
>Xi is president for life
China wants to wait him out but their economy is getting shafted by the terrifs and uncertainty
>Trump knows "no China trade deal" will be a major attack during the campaign next year so he's getting ahead of it by saying he won't do it until then
>The damage is felt up front but the market cares more about uncertainty so knowing that he won't do it until 2021 is a certainty they can recover on
>China continues to get fucked harder than us
Don't forget we have a trade deal with China and Mexico that the house isn't willing to vote on. What makes you think they'd vote on a China deal if it had even a remote chance to make orange man look good. The day that deal is signed the market will rocket and they know it.
Realistically we shouldn't do business with China at all. It was a mistake to begin with. Fund the rebellion in Hong Kong and wake up the main land too.
