The only way that happens is if you're in something and it gaps some ridiculous amount on you. This is a very unlikely scenario and even more unlikely if you take a little care. Think of actually owing as something not to worry about. As far as using leverage in futures, it's just like anywhere else you only use as much as you want and you don't have to use any if you don't want to. The issue with futures is the minimum notional value of a contract dictates that with a small account you basically have to use leverage.
The Russell 2000 micro is the smallest index contract you can buy and a single one is worth $8375 at this very moment. So if you have $8375 in your account and you buy just one contract then you aren't using any leverage. If you have less than that, well, obviously you are using leverage. So if you're worried just have at least that much to start with. And if you're comfortable with 3x like with the ETFs, you need $2791.67 when you buy 1 micro russell. It's not that big a deal, just have an amount in the account to meet the leverage multiple you want. I started back in the day with only $600 and I never blew up my account. I was just very careful and slowly ground up until I had lots of money to work with. Now I trade with 30 or 40 contracts at a time without even thinking about it and I manage my leverage so I never get in trouble. People who blow up their accounts are the people in 30 or 40x positions that go against them. Just don't do that.

Hm, everybody trades differently but most strategies boil down to either going with the trend or trading a reversion after a pullback from the trend. I've always preferred the latter since it seems to suit my personality better and I have good success with it.
When dealing with leverage if you want to play it safely you want to find an instrument with a low notional value and isn't likely to move to fast on you. Treasuries and currencies are perfect for this but I don't trade those so I'll direct your attention to the micro Russell 2000 index. If you only want to risk $100, that's easy. Just place a stop $100 away from your entry. The micro russell has a value of 50 cents per tick and each tick is 1/10 of a point. Say you buy one contract at 1670.0 your stop would be set 200 ticks below that so 1650.0
A decent babby's first mean reversion strategy is to find horizontal lines of support as underlined in pic related. When the price dumps beneath that support line, by roughly the amount indicated by the arrow on there you buy. Your target sell is when the price gets back to that support line which will often act as resistance. The market is trending up right now so the probability of this strategy succeeding is very high and the support resistance areas are easy to spot. So fund your account, look for support on the micro russell 2000, when it dips buy a contract, set your stop 200 ticks below that and set your sell for when the price gets back to that support (now the resistance). Remember this is babby's first index futures strategy and yes it is simplistic but it should help get you started.

I expect even PC gamers to upgrade at higher rates than expected in 2H 2020 right into the launch of 30XX series cards, which will push demand up on their own. Lots of people skipped RTX 20XX series because of no node jump. They didn't drop prices because they are thinking long term and want to condition consumer, NVDA hates dropping retail price. I expect 30XX to have a better starting price.
