I fell for the medical school meme. I picked a specialty that pays well (dermatologist; ~$420K/year), but that is still 4 years away (need to finish residency first). My wife and I will have a combined household income of $110,000 until then, starting after I graduate this June...that's if she continues to work. We want kids, and at 26 going on 27, she's not getting any younger. What do we do? Should I just let her stay at home and raise our babies while I make $55K/year slave wages for the next 4 years? Her IUD comes out soon.

Brain surgeon here. Just wait it out to have kids or get fucked. I made that mistake during residency and almost lost everything. My wife ended up cheating on me and divorcing me anyway

having kids in your 30s and when youre financially stable and ready isn't that big of a deal. stop trying to do so much at once

>> No.17034874

You're fucked. One, do not stop school, you need to become a dermatologist. The next 4 years will be rough.
Figure out your financial situation after you graduate this June. Until then, you can't really judge if having a child will break the bank.

You need to coast until you get your specialty. If you can fit a child in while you do so, then go for it.

Based. You must be making closer to a milly per year.

Damn, sorry to hear that, man. Yeah, I'm thinking we ought to just buckle down and aggressively pay off these loans before we have kiddos.

Honestly my man you’ll be so far ahead about five years after you graduate med school you may as well consider adding more debt - whats your total load?

Wife should probably have kids sooner rather than later

You could do a couple of scenarios on excel - one with kids/no wife job/addl debt and one with no kids/wife has a job - and then see what the projected debt and salary would look like

Please somebody explains this to me.
Americans seem to be poor when they make $50.000/ year
However, we, in Yurop, are living like fucking kings with 50k€ / year
How come? It can't be only the price of life being higher in the U.S., right?

I graduated residency last year, and I have 320k of loan debt. Get on my level. It's soul crushing. I spent a few months being a NEET again (the dream) and then got a job at a private practice. Working on paying off my debt now.

You don't wanna wait as she gets less fertile, but, it seems like a nightmare to have kids in residency. It's bad enough just living on your own trying to find enough time to sleep and eat and do laundry.

Kids aren't that expensive unless you want Elite tier daycares and shit.

You are already heavily invested in Med School. Can't pull out now.

I say get the kids rolling and borrow more money to do so.

My best friend moved to London, UK from Korea to get his medical degree with wife (unemployed) and two kids in tow. Borrowed a fuck ton of money, but even with Canada peasant doctor wages now (ONLY $300k per year) he paid it off 100% after just two years of being a doctor; internal medicine.

Start looking for other reasons / excuses to not having kids breh. Money ain't it pussy.
