The mortality rate is much higher than flu. Flu is like 0.2% globally max and current estimates for covid -19 are 1-2%. We are in flu season now something that is quite easily modelled and as a result has been prepared for. Covid 19 wasn't priced in. There were no preparations made for this virus in advance like there was for flu. This will mean that hospitals will be overwhelmed unless the spread of the virus is slowed/ contained. The more you try to slow/contain it the more money you allocate and to these containment measures and the more economic activity will be disrupted. However if you just let it rip through the population it will cripple healthcare and mortality rates will soar because people with other illnesses will not get treatment in time.

It's also important to note that the severity of action taken by one national government will set the precedent for action taken by others. So it's highly possible that we see whole cities quarantined like China did because you don't want to be the government in power if you have the largest death/population ratio in the world and didn't take as much confinement procedures. Almost all national governments are already largely dominated by those supranational global governance organisations like the UN. This is why their programs like Agenda 21, Agenda 2030, Global Compact on Migration, as well as many other measures are rolled out in concert nearly everywhere.
How many government officials and/or bio labs need to be controlled to stage all of it? If you control the test kits or their evaluation, you can just randomly declare some severe regular flu cases as well as some "no symptoms at all" cases as this new disease.
Now I do think that too much has happened for it to stay under cover, but I can sympathise with people taking this angle seriously.
