Why do people who already own a home still work full time? I can't imagine willingly choosing the nine to five lifestyle unless you're trapped in the rent and debt cycles, but if you already own your home, all you need is food and that's cheap.

I own my home outright and I have enough investment income to cover my property taxes.
I don't work but i do side hustles and take on entertainment gigs (i dance and dj). I will never do anything that i don't want to do just for the money. Feelsgoodman.jpg

'own' if you have a mortgage you don't own the house; the bank does. sure, you can sit around eating cheetos all day, but you won't have much money, unless you're a successful trader or something

Realized that if I owned a home I could literally work a minimum wage job, 20 hours a week minimum, and maintain my lifestyle. Literally about $1,000 goes into a home monthly whether it be one you bought or are renting. The other approx. $1000 is non home used money. Once you own it outright the only thing remaining is property tax like 1 or 2 times a year. Heck you could work full time for 5 years at a minimum wage job and then take off 5 years in a row.

Even after owning a home you're gonna pay about $10,000 per year on everything above.

We're living in the least affordable era in American history.

This.

Plus saving for retirement, driving costs and healthcare in the US.

Not to mention clothing and student loans.

I could keep going...

My property taxes are about $7k/year. Need to paint the exterior this year. Deck boards are going to need to be replaced soon. Fence is starting to fall over. Bats are living in the chimney. New roof will be needed in the next 10 years. The fun never ends.

I'm renting a two bedroom apartment for $500 a month. I'm fostering special needs doggos from my local shelter for $125; they pay for food and any medical expenses.

It's literally free real estate.

Being forced to work FT for 50 years is way worse than a mortgage. Companies don’t keep people around like they used to and so this “house investment” isn’t appealing. Now renting out a place to tenants is another thing.

You would be a literal retard for buying a house in a HOA.
Home insurance is not necessary once you pay off your mortgage.
Property tax can be easily covered by investments such as dividend stocks.

My property taxes are about $1500/yr. Learn how to maintain your house yourself. Also, you can just get rid of the fence and deck to simplify the maintenance in the future.

I actually did a lot of cosmetic work on my house when I bought it. New floors, trim, doors, interior paint, removed popcorn ceilings, new lighting fixtures, etc. I don't mind building sweat equity, but there are some jobs that I just don't want to do.

My mother sold her house 3 years ago and made $65k.

If she would have waited the 3 years, she would have made $110k.

I don't think buying houses will continue once boomers finally die off.
