You need to talk to a financial professional. If you’re asking a question like “are you sure this will make money?” it means you are too trusting of random people on the internet.

NOTHING anyone tells you here is a sure thing. You can and will lose money frequently by listening to advice on this site. You may make some money too, but when you play investment games like this, you’re playing against institutional investors and professionals. That’s why everyone says “just buy S&P 500 index funds.” Because unlike stock trading and options, you’re not so much playing directly against other traders and professional option writers, you’re simply placing a betting on the long term health of the US economy (and the world economy to some extent.)

Like I said, it depends on what your risk tolerance is. For many people, 100% equities is too volatile for them so they are liable to selling at a loss. I personally am 100% equities, with that mostly smallcap (for the extra growth). I'm young, so I can hold out any recessions.
If you know yourself, and believe you can hold even if the market drops 50% during a recession, going 100% SPY is probably the most reasonable plan, as long as you don't need the money in the short term. Compared to the plans people in this thread are proposing, 100% SPY is almost certainly the safest (even if very risky from a traditional financial standpoint).

Yeah leaving it in TD works, even if you don't immediately buy. I personally would buy, because if you're prepared to lose money, then there is little downside to buying now. If the market was good to buy before it dropped today, then it's an even better buy now. Buying in lump sums outperforms buying overtime (which is called dollar cost averaging, where you buy slowly to get a stable average cost per share of stock), because buying upfront lets your investment compound longer.

>> No.17674908

>>17668897
If you are willing to buy stocks at this moment, just follow the basic principle of investing: diversify to pulverize your risk.
Buy different stocks from solid companies.
Another way to diversify during this crash is buy a a little bit every week, maybe 10% this week, 10% next, and so on. This way, if the market keep going down next week, you didn't commit it all, and you just keep buying into the dip.
If next week, or next day it starts shifting you just keep buying the same amount. You gonna lose a 1-2% here and there, but since you can't know which direction the market will move tomorrow, that's the cost to lose as little as possible and build up a solid wallet out of a dip into the long term.

>> No.17674942

>>17674899
The market is based on perception. If the cases double tomorrow, but a cure is also announce, the market will probably go up. If cases stayed the same, but governments continue to crack down (increasing fear), there is a good chance the market will continue downward. Who knows what'll happen. Coronavirus isn't the only thing affecting the markets, today's drop was largely due to the sudden oil price war that has developed.
I'd summarize my advice as follows. To time the market requires you to predict the future, and if you could predict the future, you'd be a multitrillionare since you could confidently go all in on normally retarded gambles.

Buy oil futures and leaps on oil companies when oil hits <$25/barrel. You'll be printing hard if oil gets to even $45+ within the next 2-3 years, which is pretty much inevitable.

Just so you know, only like two major regions can profit at <$25 oil, Russia & the Middle East, and Russia's break-even is like $19, so basically there is a hard long-term resistance at $20, although most people in the industry know this hence buying in at $25/bbl.

Honestly, you can't really lose with this strategy. Buy XOM, EOG, CVX. Pretty much the strongest players in the market. EOG in particular. Leaps as far out as you can at varying strikes.

Word of warning, do not use leverage nobody knows how long this oil glut will last. Stay away from oil companies with moderate/high debt on their balance sheet.
