Millions of people have/have had this supposedly novel coronavirus in the US. The overwhelming majority showed few to no symptoms, they maybe stayed home from work for a few days, then went back. The ones with severe symptoms getting tested and hospitalized skew the numbers dramatically.

2017 flu season had an estimated 51 million infected in the US with 41k deaths. We only tested about 250k people, of which about 15% came back positive. If you base your mortality rate on the number of deaths divided by the positive tests, you'll come up with a number at least an order of magnitude higher than it actually is
