I sometimes use leverage with a huge portion of my stack as well, when I feel very confident about a trade (never more than 3x tho) and I always put very careful stop losses and never had problems.

If I can give you an advice, platforms like deribit gradually liquidate a position as opposed to bitmex which liquidates all of a sudden.
