Meanwhile unpopular or unorthodox ideas are downvoted into oblivion, only viewable to those specifically looking for the controversial comments. In addition, people have reputations that get in the way of the actual argument at hand -- which is why you have the silly meme of going through someone's post history to craft a weird insult about them.

Here you don't have these problems because there is nothing to a post aside from the chronology of it (early and later posts in a thread might get read more for those too lazy to read the whole thing) and sometimes the pic used. That's it. No up votes, no down votes, no reputations, no names. Everything that you say is assessed by its content, by the IDEAS conveyed, not the surface level details that humans like to use as a shortcut to filter out things that they don't like. Because of this, sure you get a lot of things maybe a Redditor wouldn't enjoy, like muh toxic language or open racism, but that's the price to pay for a system where all ideas are on an equal playing field. If you don't like that unpopular ideas can be given a voice, sincerely return to your echo sphere.

It does. Go to any popular subreddit's threads and filter by controversial. You'll find dozens of comments that have been left to rot because they're not agreeing with the majority. This is easiest to find on a politics board but of course you will find it anywhere that gets enough traffic. Aside from just comments, there are entire THREADS you will never see because they never made it to "Top" on the subreddit. 0 upvotes and then they die.

Or worse, comments or threads get deleted by a trigger happy mod, which is another thing I forgot to mention in my original post. Power hungry moderators are definitely more dependant on the subreddit, but they are still ridiculously common.
