if you want REITs, look into Canadian REITs like H&R, RioCan, or CHP. Retail businesses in Canada have been getting wage and rent subsidies since April, never mind interest-free loans until 2022. It's a wonder why it took so long for it to start mooning up, up to you to look into the risks yourself obviously. if anything, I'd argue the risk is mainly because these REITs diversified into US too

Buffett is one of the last great FA investors. Most of them checked out in the 80s and 90s. He's had a lifetime of success that has been slid recently due to tech.
>My intention is to mostly stick to options. Shouldn't the things I mention apply to options trading as well if the goal is to time the enter and exit?
If you are doing it on the time scales of months that is what I do. Learn your greeks. They are your friends. A good first dive might be a straddle. That strat eats your gains but it also limits your losses. Once you get confident enough in your method you can drop the hedge.

Thank snowball. You buy. Then each month you buy more. Let drip work. Over time it adds up. If there's any divvy hikes it really adds up.The best part is that once you need it (income) you merely flip off the drip switch. No selling required. A constant stream of income from that point on till you die. You can also leave the stocks to your heirs after you die so they'd enjoy the wealth.

If you're concerned about 1 day of correction after and 1 day of volatility after a 100% increase in value, that still resulted at the stock sitting 3 dollars higher than it was 2 weeks ago you just need to look at the bigger picture. EVERYTHING is recovering. REIT's are delayed because they rely on mortgages paid in order to turn a profit. They invest and develop properties and real estate. It's not like they're being bought outright, they make money off interest. Mortgages that were frozen are now being paid by people who are going back to work and probably don't want to put off the inevitable bills. The only thing that hit REIT's this hard was the 2008 collapse, and they still recovered. Feel no fear.

It doesn't do much for you until you get 10-50k in if you can get a 5-10% dividend. $5,000 in only gets you $250-500. It's enough to get a couple shares or something, but you're still mostly buying more shares with another source of income. $50,000 gets you $2,500-$5,000 a year and you can sometimes opt in to have your dividends paid out in new shares at a discount, but if you plan on living off your divs, you're better off only doing that if you have a cash cushion.

If you refrain from texting her, she may pick it up again but if she doesn't it becomes even more awkward if you decided text her a week from now. At least if you acknowledge the elephant in the room, you'll show that you're not fazed by it and it gives you a platform to joke around and gauge if she is interested. stocks aren't at 80% they are essentially back at all time highs or higher. maybe that's a good yolo momentum play in the short term. But if this is a reversal and stocks drop say 10% you could probably still sell those year out calls for maybe 1/3 or 1/2, better than loosing it all. Long term there is a big chance we'll be much lower by next year, and any big drop from here is going to decimate those calls.

I totally understand what you're saying but from my perspective it just doesn't seem worth it. Take O (ticker) for example, $0.23 monthly return, priced at $61 per share. Even if I bought 1,000 shares at 61k, I'm still only getting a monthly return of a measly $230. I guess I could sink that back in for another 3 or 4 shares a month but at that point, what would even be the purpose? It would take me another 20-25 years to get to a point where I could even double my return by reinvesting my profits every single month.

I'd be better off investing that 61k into blue chips, right? I'm sort of playing devil's advocate because I don't fully understand what the end game is for divies.

For stability? Yeah. For returns? No.
I have 100 shares of CEQP on a cost basis of 15.31 a share, and that pays $250 a year.
The whole point of dividend investing is the passive income. Unless one of your companies takes a massive shit on itself and cuts/cancels their dividends, you can put a million dollars into a portfolio and expect anywhere from 3% to 15% a year. It's also worth pointing out qualified dividends are taxed at capital gains rates, meaning if you build a solid portfolio that's paying $100k in qualified dividends, you're only paying $9,093.60 in taxes a year.

Invest in bug spray

>> No.19650409

>>19649422
It doesn't really have to do with how much you invest, it has to do with what the total returns are. The reason it's not worth it is because for decades growth stocks (no dividends) have increased in value more than dividend stocks+dividends.

If a growth stock gains 15% per year, and a dividend stock gains 5% per year plus gives you a 5% annual dividend, then your net worth is actually increasing faster with the growth stock, even though you are reinvesting the 5% dividend.

Most people would say the best strategy is to invest in growth stocks to build a capital base, and then transition into dividend stocks towards retirement when you're actually planning to use the dividends as a primary/secondary income source so that you don't have to draw down on your capital by selling stocks.

Basically, unless you are trying to supplement your income with divs, you should be concerned about the effective total return.
