Are you asking whether the manufacturer has unintentionally or purposely introduced defects in the software such that it gives flaky results? I have no idea. I would imagine that the software can be trusted.

As for whether there is a way to get counterfeit metals to pass the conductivity test, I don't think there is the way the Sigma does things. The Sigma measures conductivity but also indicates the appropriate size of the metal; that is, for a given conductivity and a specified metal type, the Sigma expects a certain volume.
