I do this as well but it increases net costs because of the processing fee that the retailers pass on. Still doesn't make sense to not do it until nobody else does

Reminder that hating credit cards is just admitting you're financially irresponsible. If you use it responsibly, there's absolutely zero drawbacks to you as an individual and loads of benefits over cash. The only difference would be if everyone collectively stopped using debit/credit cards and retailers didn't have to factor processing fees into prices.

Neither have annual fees, neither force you into changing your spending habits. Just buy what you'd normally buy anyway at the stores you already go to and you purely benefit. Unless... You're bad with money that is. Or incompetent with credit cards. But you wouldn't be admitting that, would you anon?

Your implication is that I'm solely driving up prices on my own. Even if I stop using credit/debit cards, everyone else still will. You can view it simply as getting some of the money you lose from price increases back if you want. At the end of the day, it's not realistic to assume we're going to transition from a proto-cashless society to a society that purely uses cash. So you may as well get some of that money you're losing due to processing fees back.

You have two scenarios:

Scenario A.

John has $100 and wants to buy a $100 watch. John buys the watch with $100 in cash. John is happy with his new watch. John also has $0 now.

Scenario B.

Escobar has $100 in his bank account and wants to buy a $100 watch. Escobar buys the watch using his Chase Freedom Unlimited credit card (1.5% cash back on every purchase). Escobar is a financially responsible man and immediately pays off his credit card balance. Escobar loves his new watch, and because of the cash back perks he now has $1.50 in his bank account.

Now /biz, I don’t give a fuck if it’s $1.50. Tell me which scenario is better? Fucking financially illiterate retards all over this board. Enjoy your cash perks losers.

>> No.20134022

>>20133850
Scenario C
Retailer gets charged a $2.50 fee by the card processor, which he adds to the price of the fake watch. Some autistic Mexican man comes into the shop and fixates on the fake watch and starts asking questions about how it was made. The retailer makes up a story and the autistic man buys the watch for $100 and gets "free" money.

You sound stupid as hell. Every customer is going to pay that credit card “markup”, paying cash or credit. And by the way most retailers just eat that cost.

What the fuck are you even trying to say? Yes, retailers include processing fees into their prices in the long term. That's going to happen UNLESS the vast majority of people switch to cash. Do you think that's likely to happen? Even if there were no credit cards, no rewards for using them, debit cards would be used in their place.

Cash kinda sucks in its own right. You have to carry it around. In order to take cash out of your account, or put cash into it, you gotta go to a physical location (atm or bank). And then you gotta deal with ATM fees if your bank doesn't reimburse out-of-network ATMs. If it does, you still gotta drive out of your way to an ATM anyway. It's also significantly slower to transact.

You can argue that the ~3% markup is made up by the time and gas saved by using cards rather than cash. That's not even counting the safety cards can bring, ESPECIALLY credit cards. Purchase protection is pretty common. If I buy something with my amex, it gets stolen or never arrives or what-have-you, I get reimbursed. Cash doesn't do that. If I get mugged on the street, if they get my cards I can freeze them and have new ones overnighted to me for free. If I'm carrying cash, I'm SOL.

Considering the fact that the ~3% markup is largely made up by rewards (I get 3% on groceries with my amex bluecash everyday, not even including the $150 signup bonus I got on it btw), I think the markup is largely insignificant. Even if there weren't any rewards, the time and gas saved + security more than make up for it I'd say.
